Cloud Storage Tips and Tricks for CIOs

Many businessmen have begun transitioning data backup and daily applications to the cloud. This will increase network problems and will have adverse effects on performance and productivity. However, SaaS services aim to increase latency, but it will also have adverse effects on daily work and its functioning. Workers will be forced to wait for hours for transferring the data. This will upset the workers and cause an inevitable loss of productivity.

Tricks When Transitioning Data And Applications To The Cloud

  1. Be ready to deal with network challenges: Wide area network (WAN) poses a great influence on cloud service performance. Inadequate bandwidth, postponement caused by long distance, and weak network quality due to packet loss have an immense effect on data protection and storage initiatives. This is extremely crucial when you are using the internet for cloud access, or instance, if an organization uses Amazon Web Services (AWS) to store data and manage applications. But, if these services are a hundred miles away from your firm’s location, then you will have to suffer from low-quality internet connections, which will result in weak application efficacy and delay in data transfer.
  2. Optimize the WAN: CIOs have to make sure that their network will be able to endure the large flow of traffic, which is caused by a large number of cloud storage initiatives. Large volumes of data can easily be transmitted to and from the cloud when optimization of WAN takes place. This will guarantee cloud storage while enhancing data protection and strengthening initiatives, and make it look as if the cloud-based applications are held next door.
  3. Avoid additional usage of band width: Using additional bandwidth will not solve your network problems. The expense of WAN bandwidth can be exceedingly costly, which CIOs can avoid. This can be simply done by using a software-defined approach to data stimulation. This will help CIOs to minimize their WAN bandwidth prerequisites.
  4. Keep in mind that you do not retain any infrastructure: Cloud space belongs to CIOs subscribers and is accessible until they stay subscribed to the service, and the service stays in business. You should be ready to move your data to the primary data center or to some different cloud space, with prior notice. Moreover, you should avoid replicating your data to a service center, which is at a short distance away from your primary source center. For instance, during a hurricane, organizations whose primary data centers existed in Manhattan and secondary data center in New Jersey, faced failure to access their data at both sites, nearly at the same time.
  5. Give importance to security: Most organizations are willingly adopting SaaS applications. This increases the concern over data theft which means that the moving traffic over the internet requires a safe connection more than ever. Such a traffic needs to be encrypted with AES-256. This is necessary for securing any type of application over the network.
