5 Reasons Every Business Needs a Virtual Private Network

Business Needs a Virtual Private Network

A virtual private network is a method to provide access to a mobile computer via a public telecommunication infrastructure to a business’s network in a secure fashion. Virtual private network is often referred to as a VPN. Encryption is utilized along with other security measures to ensure that only users with clearance from the organization can gain access to the network and data. There are five reasons a business should consider a virtual private network.

Save Money

Connecting a mobile computer to a network server by traditional dial-in service is rather costly. The organization must lease a telephone line and purchase call-trafficking equipment. There is also the cost of toll calls or an expensive 800 number. Businesses are always looking for ways to cut operating costs. The only required equipment for a mobile computer to connect to a VPN is a VPN server. A VPN eliminates the need for call-trafficking equipment, leasing a telephone line, and an 800 number.

Satellite Offices

Many businesses have satellite offices in various cities around the country. A virtual private network is almost indispensable for tying satellite offices into the company network. Each satellite office can connect to the company’s main network and to the networks at the other satellite locations with just a VPN server, an internet connection and an IP address.

Contract Employees, Telecommuters and Traveling Representatives

Contract employees may need access to the business’s network from an office miles away. By dialing into a local internet service provider the contracted employee may access the business’s network through a secure tunnel. A business may recruit a well trained and highly experienced employee from another city. The employee has the ability to work from home and access business files as though he/she is sitting at an on-site office via a VPN. Representatives may request contract approvals, check e-mails and more out in the field with VPN access with a phone line.

Save Time

Often remote servers discover problems staying connected to the server with traditional dial-in service. Employees experience a lot of downtime attempting to reconnect. Remote access servers experience less downtime utilizing a virtual private network.

Protect On-Line Privacy

A VPN links a web of computers enabling various users to access confidential business files with proper authorization securely. The encrypted tunnels protect data from loss by cyber criminals. Security is never compromised by remote computers with a VPN.
