4 Security Tips For VPNs
VPN stands for "virtual private network". Large firms and companies use VPNs to connect with various users. So in this article I am going to discuss some security tips that are related to VPN’s.
Protect Your VPN Network
Make sure that your passwords are not easy to guess. Use a combination of numbers and words for creating passwords. If you don’t have a 2-step authentication then your password becomes the only stage that keeps your network secure. This is sometimes not enough and it is advisable to have a 2-step authentication process.
Encryption provides a higher level of security. Make sure you use the maximum level of encryption.
- PPP: Point To Point Protocol is a method. With PPP one can work with a number of layer protocols.
- PPTP: Point To Point Tunneling Protocols. These are the some common encryption methods which are used. PPTP is easy to use and configure.
- IPSec: Internet Protocol Security is used for end to end security.
- L2TP: Layer 2 Tunnel Protocol. This method does not provide encryption, it relies on other sources.
Limit The Usage
VPN is like a key to the door, so make sure that you keep the usage on a limited level. If an unknown user enters the network it can be quite harmful. Only limited users should be allowed to access the network, also one should keep track of all the files which are accessed on the network.
Firewall And Anti-Virus
When computer systems are connected to networks and files are exchanged through the network, the risk of spreading infected virus increases. So make sure that you install antivirus softwares and firewalls on all the systems. Ensure that the firewalls and anti-virus softwares are updated from time to time.
Maintaining security for any network is important. VPNs are very effective if you want to keep your data safe from breaches. So follow these simple security tips for VPN.
