Users should not be intimidated on how to Use VMware workstation because it only involves three main stepsVMware installation, operating system installation, and navigating within the environment.

VMware Installation

The process of installing VMware will require you to check your computer’s specification first. Among the common specifications to check are your processor and operating system. Your computer’s processor should 64-bit and running on Windows and Linux OS. A good display adapter is also important, with expert’s recommendation of having at least 16-bit or 32-bit display adapter. Free space of at least 1.5 gigabyte is also important to make sure your VMware will run flawlessly. However, be sure to allot another gigabyte of space for VMware’s operating system to run.

After ensuring that your computers have these specifications, you can download VMware from VMware’s website. It has a Download Center where you can get the program. Follow installation procedures and restart your computer once done.

Operating System Installation

One of the good things about VMware is that it is compatible with Windows or Linux operating systems. You can also use different versions according to your own requirements.

To install your virtual environment’s operating system, run VMware and use the OS installation disc you obtained. Create a new virtual machine and select Typical. Installing the operating system varies depending on the type of media you have. For physical disc, select the OS and choose the VMware drive where you want to install it. In using ISO image, select the image from its location then install.

After running the installation file, place OS info and name the virtual machine to make identification easy. Assign the disk size that you want to use and customize the virtual machine’s hardware. This will be the emulated version of the hardware you need. However, setting this up is only optional. Start the virtual machine and wait when the installation process is completed.

Finally, verify if all your needed VMware tools are already installed. You will see them on the desktop and set your configurations to regularly update your virtual machine.

VMware Navigation

Navigating your virtual machine begins by turning it on. Your option includes starting the machine regularly or log on directly to its BIOS. Among the benefits of accessing your virtual machine on your computer is that file transfers are way easier since you can drag and drop files. It will retain the original file in your computer while the computer creates a copy on the virtual machine and vice versa. Copy and pasting commands can also be used. At this point, you can install different hardware like adding a printer or connect using a USB drive. To make sure you will access the virtual machine’s specific state, take a snapshot to save its current state and access it whenever you want to.

Turn off the machine by selecting the VM menu. This is where you will find the Power Off option or Shut Down Guest.

Now that you know how to Use VMware workstation, you will find it easier to use and keep yourself from being intimidated in the process.
