How to Use VMware Workstation

With VMware program, you can run a virtual computer in your physical computer. This virtual computer will run exactly like a physical computer. A virtual machine facilitates easier try out of new operating systems, creation of computing environments and especially for young children, visiting any website that you don’t trust and testing an effect of a computer virus.   6. You also need a minimum of 1.5 GB free memory to install the program and at least 1 GB for any other operating system you install.

 

Download VMware software

You can simply download the program installer from VMware website download center. However, you should only choose the latest version and then click the installation link. To do this, you have to log in with your username and password. Before downloading the file, you will have to read and review the user agreement. The site allows installation of a single version of VMware at a time.

How to install an operating system into VMware

Installation of an operating system on the program is similar to the installation on a regular pc. You will need the ISO image or the disc and the agreement for the specific operating system before you install it. The program allows any version installations.

After installing the operating system, you should name your virtual machine to effectively differentiate it from your physical computer. Furthermore, it will help you in differentiating multiple computers which can be running dissimilar operating systems.

You should then set the disc size. The system allows allocation of any amount of a free space in your computer to the virtual computer. The free space acts as the virtual computers operating system hard drive. You should allocate enough space to allow running any program you install in the virtual system.

You should then customize the virtual machine to match with your needs. Click the “customize hardware” button. This enables you to run an older to program that only supports some hardware.

To start, consider setting up the virtual machine. You should check the box labeled as “power on the virtual machine after creation” in case you need the virtual machine to start up immediately after you complete the installation. If you miss the check box, you can choose the virtual machine from the list in the VMware program and then click the power on button.

Wait for the completion of the installation. After switching on for the power machine on your first time, the new operating system will start to install immediately. If you provided all the relevant information at the setup stage, you will not be required to do anything else.

Once you have fully installed the operating system, VMware tools will be installed automatically. Therefore, start by checking their appearance on your desktop or in program files for your newly installed operating system.
